Clinical standards/governance
Clinical Governance at Pilgrims Hospices was established to ensure the delivery of effective and safe care for patients, families and carers. It incorporates the areas of clinical effectiveness, evidence-based care and clinical risk management.
This agenda is achieved by means of:
- Monitoring continuing professional education of all staff (at annual appraisal)
- A rolling programme of audits of various aspects of our services
- Regular reviews of critical incidents including drug errors, accidents and near-misses in the units
- A systematic review of any complaints that may occur and dissemination of any recommendations that may result
- Ensuring that all clinical staff have access to up-to-date evidence through a range of literature and journals
- Clinical risk management review
- Review of relevant clinical policies and procedures
The Clinical Governance Committee is chaired by the medical director and reports to the Board of Trustees. It meets twice monthly with observers attending each meeting. It receives reports from the Audit Steering Group (PHASG), the nurse managers of each hospice, the Medicines Management Group and the Hospice Complaints Committee.
