Day hospice

The aim of the day hospice is to improve the quality of life for patients coping with a life-limiting illness, alongside their families and carers, through symptom management and support.

Patients can attend their local day hospice following referral from a member of the Multi-Professional Team at Pilgrims Hospices.

Attendance is normally for one day a week although twice a week may be arranged in special circumstances. As part of the day hospice policy, a patient's progress is reviewed regularly. For some of our patients less frequent attendance or discharge from the service may be appropriate.

Transport to and from the hospice can be arranged if patients or families are unable to bring themselves and will be discussed when a patient is referred.

The day hospice provides a positive environment of mutual support within a calm and relaxed atmosphere and offers the following services:

  • Monitoring and management of symptoms by trained nursing and medical staff
  • Access to a range of multi-professional services as required
  • Complementary therapies - including reflexology and aromatherapy massage
  • Creative activities
  • Horticultural activities
  • Access to information
  • Respite for families and carers

Lunch is provided free of charge and most dietary needs can be accommodated.
