Physiotherapy

During the week physiotherapists are available at each hospice, liaising with the rest of the medical team, to administer and provide techniques to ease pain, help with mobility, prevent joint stiffness, enhance relaxation and improve function to help patients manage at home.

Individual needs will be assessed and treatment plans made in agreement with the medical team.  This could involve providing appropriate mobility aids, planning for discharge and ordering specialist equipment for use at home

Physiotherapists are involved in teaching patients how to cope with anxiety through relaxation and breathing techniques.

Groups are held for both in and out patients, teaching patients and families how to cope with the problems of breathlessness.

The physiotherapist can also help with the control of lymphoedema.

Physiotherapy services are also available in each day hospice to review individual needs and treat accordingly.
